Sharon Stoerger is the Director of the Information, Technology, and Informatics program at Rutgers. Her teaching experience ranges from gender and computerization (STEM) to instructional technologies to media writing courses. Dr. Stoerger's research areas of interest include computer‐mediated communication, social informatics, and educational uses of social media including virtual worlds. She is also interested in online and blended teaching approaches. Dr. Stoerger has presented her work on educational uses of technology at a number of national and international conferences including EDUCAUSE, New Media Consortium, the eLearning Forum Asia, and Online EDUCA Berlin. She has also written several articles and book chapters on the educational uses of social media and virtual worlds. In 2013, she received the Distinguished Achievement in Service Award from Rutgers School of Communication & Information ‐ The Department of Library and Information Science. Dr. Stoerger received her Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from University of Illinois at Urbana‐Champaign. She holds an MBA from the University of Nebraska and her PhD is in Social Informatics from Indiana University in Bloomington.
